How to Measure Spring Length and Determine the Correct Replacement Springs for a Trailer
Question:
I am looking to replace some leaf springs on a trailer with some that are a little more heavy duty. I have noticed that most of the leaf springs you sell have slightly different lengths. I am looking for a higher weight rating, but will I be limited by spring length or does the installation allow for some variance in spring length?

Measuring the distance from the center of one eye on your original springs to the center of the other eye will give you a general idea of the length of the new springs you need. Your springs may measure slightly longer due to wear so you will want to select a spring that is slightly shorter and matches the capacity of your trailer axle.
Adding springs to your trailer that have a higher capacity than the axle capacity or the capacity of the hub and drum components is not recommended. You should replace your original springs with springs that are rated for 1/2 the axle rating.
If your axle is rated for 6,600 pounds you will want to use springs that have a rating of 3,300 pounds, if you have 6,000 pound axles you will want springs rated for 3,000 pounds each.
We have a page, see link, that lists all of the double eye springs that we carry along with their measurements. You should be able to select the correct springs from this list. If you would like me to recommend a set of springs for your trailer I will be glad to. Let me know the measurement from the center of one spring eye to the next, and the capacity of your trailers axle and I will select the best match for you.
I have also included links to a video and information that may help with your spring selection.
