Upgrade From 1 Step To 2 Steps On 2016 Salem Cruise lite With 25 Wide Mounting Area

Question:

I have a 2016 Salem Cruise Lite with a Flexco single step entry unit. I want to change it to a 2 step unit. I’ve spent some time searching your website and can’t find a unit that fits my specs. The single step unit, based on researching your site, is the Stromberg Carlson SMFP-1100. The overall mounting base width is 25”. Forest River added a hanger plate for each side of the step unit to hang from. It is welded to the trailer frame and bolted to the floor. Because it is welded I cannot fit a step base wider than 25” but I want the widest step tread I can get. I also want to keep the welded hanger for the added strength From your review videos The Lippert # LC432682 mounting base is 25-1/4” wide. The Stromberg Carlson Flexco # SMFP-2100 is 26-1/8” wide The Stromberg Carlson Flexco # SMFP-2120 is 22-1/8” wide – this of course will fit if i add some sort of spacers but I lose 4” of step width Is there a 2 step unit with close to, but less than a 25inch mounting base? Or do you have a suggestion?

Since you are going from 1 step to 2 steps for your manual pull out step setup on the 2016 Salem Cruise Lite the brackets of the 2 step systems are going to be wider. We do not carry a 2 step manual pull out step that would fit the 25" mounting space without the use of spacers with The Stromberg Carlson Flexco # SMFP-2120 which we do not recommend because of stability reasons.

When you mention hanger plates it sounds like you are referring to Outriggers like Lippert Outriggers for Manual RV Steps part # LC301704. To replace the 1 step with a 2 step you would need to take the RV to a fabricator to have the outriggers moved out (if there's space) or the outriggers removed to install a new step like Lippert Manual Pull-Out Step for RVs part # LC432682 which only requires a 25-1/2" width.

The other option is to go with a pull down step like SolidStep Manual Fold-Down Steps part # LC733931 which fits doorways between 26" - 29-7/8" and folds up into the doorway instead of stowing beneath the door where they are exposed to elements. This particular Solidstep requires an entry height of 22-28" from the ground to the doorway. Personally I like the SolidStep because they have a tendency to last longer since they are not constantly being rained on. They also have the extension legs for ground contact that adds extra stability.
