Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch for Jayco Hummingbird Towed By 2019 Toyota Highlander

Question:

Weight distribution system. I have a 2019 Toyota Highlander. We are towing a 2017 Jayco hummingbird 17 foot camper. The dry weight of the camper is 2850 pounds. With our extras in the camper fully loaded we are at around roughly 350 pounds. I was looking at the system C17051. Would this be correct for my set up. Thank you,

I have a solution for you, but the Curt MV Weight Distribution Hitch # C17062 is not going to be a good fit for you because it's rated for a much higher weight at 1000-lbs tongue weight and 10,000-lbs towing weight, than is required for your Jayco Hummingbird. While the towing capacity is important, the tongue weight of your trailer is equally, if not more important. With a trailer that weighs in around 3200-33000-lbs total, you can expect your tongue weight to be anywhere from 10-15% of that.

I recommend going with the Husky Center Line Weight Distribution System # HT32215 (with 2" hitch ball) or # HT32216 (with 2-5/16" hitch ball). This system is properly weighted for use with your trailer and will provide 4 point sway control that works to stop trailer sway before it starts-where the Curt MV does not have built in sway control. The Husky system also allows you to back up your trailer with the bars still attached, where the Curt MV does not allow for backing up without disconnecting. The Husky easily attaches to the trailer frame via brackets to provide an for a no drill installation and the spring bar lift tool allows you to maneuver the spring bars safely onto and off of the brackets.

I have attached a video on the Husky that you might find informative as well as our help articles on weight distribution systems that can provide some additional information for you as you get into trailer towing.
