Locating Replacement Leaf Springs for 1969 Trailer with 26 Double Eye Springs

Question:

I have a 1969 or older 13foot from tongue to rear travel trailer that weighs 1980 pounds. it has 26, double eye, 3 layer leaf springs that need to be replaced. the axle looks to be about 2.5" to 2.75" in diameterWe will be adding a cabinet, a steel retractable step and a few other items bringing the weight up about 150 pounds. Final weight should be about 2200 pounds. Is the leaf spring rating per spring or cumulative? Im sure that is decipherable. But just to be clear: would 2 1500 pound leaf springs carry 1500 or 3000 pounds? Do you sell springs that fit my need? Thanks!

The 26" long 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e77SR that you were looking at is designed for 2,000 pound axles, meaning that each individual spring stack has a 1,000 pound rating.

While this set matches the length of your existing leaf springs it will be slightly under-rated for your trailer that will weigh around 2,200 pounds. The next closest set in capacity that has a 26" eye-to-eye length is the 4,500 pound # e27SR (meaning a single stack has a 2,000 pound capacity).

This will technically work as a replacement but it may provide a bit of a rougher ride on the trailer since it's over-rated by quite a bit.

The best option we have available is likely the 2,500 pound 25-1/8" Leaf Spring # e66SR. This unit appropriately matches your trailer/axle capacity and likely does a better job of matching the true leaf spring length on your trailer. If your existing leaf springs are anywhere close to the age of the trailer itself, they will have stretched out a decent amount over time. This means the length of the original springs when they were installed were probably closer to this 25-1/8" measurement.
