How Are Standoff Ladder Braces Attached To The Ladder Tube

Question:

Looking for a 5-inch ladder standoff. There doesnt seem to be a mechanical connection between the tube and backing plate. How is the tube held by the backing plate? Some standoffs seem to have a screw holding the backing plate and the tube together. Is one end of the tube swedged? and the tube slipped through the backing plate from the back to the front? How is the base attached to the standoff tube? Is the base held to the standoff tube with a screw or some other means of attachment?

Helpful Expert Reply:

The base on the Replacement Stand-Off Brace for the Surco Universal Exterior RV Ladders # SPN-416 slides over the standoff tube and is held back with the lip formed by the end of the tube because the tube is widened at the other end. The base is then held in place with 4 screws.

Included is a photo showing where you can see a difference in the width of the standoff tube ends.
