Can The Tubular Keys For the etrailer.com Trailer Wheel Lock Be Duplicated Easily
Question:
your team should take a key for this to a professional locksmith to see if they can be duplicated at all. i borrowed a chinese unit similar to this from a friend that only had one key to it. i was going to have an extra key made for the use of the lock but when going to our locksmith, i was told that the style of barrel key used was impossible to copy because of the way the grooves were placed. this meant that normal key shop blanks could not be used for copies. dont want to see you selling a pig in a poke.

Expert Reply:
The tubular keys like the ones that come with etrailer.com Trailer Wheel Lock part # 288-02020 are designed to not be duplicated by a standard lock smith for security reasons. They are considered Difficult-to-duplicate keys to deter thefts. They would need to be replaced by the manufacturer if lost.
