Will Disconnecting Brake Line Via Quick Disconnect Allow Backing up Trailer

Question:

Im switching out my non working Atwood Surge brake actuator. My trailer has a quick disconnect line near the tongue. Going to install a new surge brake that does not have a manual lockout for backing up a hill. Just wondering if disconnecting the line via quick disconnect would also give me the same solution? just got the used trailer and not sure if the brake shoes are non lockout brakes.

That could potentially work but I'd be worried about putting too much pressure on the check valve on the actuator side and having that blow or forgetting to reconnect the line and traveling without active brakes (which could also blow the check valve). What I recommend doing is replacing your actuator with one like the Titan # T4339720 with an electric lockout and then using the kit # HM47890 to get the reverse signal sent to the actuator. When the actuator receives the reverse signal the solenoid then allows you to back up without your trailer brakes activating.
