Can 12 Tire and Wheels be Upgraded to Larger Size for Better Ground Clearance for Axle

Question:

I have a boat trailer with 12 inch wheels. I need taller tires for ground clearance. I thought about lift blocks but that doesnt raise the axle. Thanks

If your current 12" wheels use a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern then you should be able to upgrade to a 205/75R14 size tire provided that you have enough fender and frame clearance. I recommend using the Kenda Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Tire # AM10235 with the Galvanized Wheel # AM20364 which has an overall diameter of 26.3" and a section width of 8.1". We recommend having at least 4" of clearance for your fender (to account for suspension flex) and at least 2" between the sidewall of the tire and your trailer frame.

For the biggest 12" tire/wheel combo available I recommend the Taskmaster 5.30R12 Radial Trailer Tire # TT53012C with the Aluminum Lynx Trailer Wheel # LH45FR which uses that 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern, has an outer diameter of 21.57" and a section width of 5.39".

If neither of these options works for your application let me know what your current tire size is and what kind of clearance you currently have so I can make a different recommendation.
