Can New T-Track Strip be Used to Reduce Whistling With Open Sunroof for 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

Hi. I have the mopar rack on my2016 grand Cherokee with panoramic sunroof. I understand these are basically Thule aero blades on different feet. They are quiet except for horrible whistling when the sunroof is open, especially vented. They are installed as far apart as possible on the factory rails. Would replacing the flat rubber strip on top of the rails with the Thule ribbed make a difference.? If so the cheap part might be worth it. Thanks

Even with the most aerodynamic crossbars you will still hear whistling when you open the sunroof on your 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee because you are changing the way the air flows. Since your Jeep is a '16 you likely have the older AeroBlade Thule crossbars which unfortunately aren't compatible with the newer QuickAccess Interface Top T-Track Strip like part # 1500052989 (I honestly think this is a major design flaw from Thule). Even if you could I don't believe it is the T-Slot that is causing all of the noise that you are hearing. It would probably reduce the noise a little but it wouldn't be a drastic difference.

The only thing that may help in your situation (aside from leaving your sunroof closed with the rack installed) is to add a fairing to your front crossbar to try and deflect some of that wind (if you don't already have one). According to my research you should be able to fit the 38" Long Thule AirScreen # TH72WV but you'll want to measure the available space between your side rails before ordering. If you happen to need a different size I am linking our selection of fairings for you to filter through.
