How To Upgrade the Factory Trailer Hitch On a 2010 Ford F-150
Question:
Factory hitch I have a 2010 F150 play factory tow package When I give Ford my Vin number they are telling me that my vehicle is rated to tow 10,000 pounds I am towing a boat that weighs 4500 pounds plus trailer motor and fuel which gives me a grand total at 6700 pounds they are also telling me that the receiver that they install on the 150s is only a class three receiver what would be your thoughts on this set up and how can I tow My boat with confidence in order to add a class four hitch I am being told I would have to remove all the bumper brackets and bolts and a new bumper brackets and bolts and want to utilize a class four hitch

The factory trailer hitch on your 2010 Ford F-150 has a class III rating. This will be sufficient to tow your boat and trailer but if you would like to upgrade to a class IV then the only option for this is the TorkLift SuperHitch Hero Trailer Hitch Receiver part # TLF1005H. The other options for your F-150 will not work because the bumper brackets are all integrated into the trailer hitch which was pointed out by the dealer.
Please note, due to the weight of your trailer you will want to install a set of suspension enhancements because if not done so the vehicle would likely sag which then decreases braking and stability. I recommend the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TFR1504D for 4WD models or part # TFR1502D for 2WD models. These are easy to install, cost effective, and they work really well.
