How to Verify Wheel Size for Replacement Rim and Tire on Dump Trailer

Question:

I have a 14 K dump trailer that requires new tires, it currently does not have a spare tire. I plan on buying new tires and another tire rim for the trailer and making one of the older tires a spare. Currently my tires are ST235/80R16, the only markings on the back side of the tire rims that I can read is DOT TMXM 6KX16 080602. I would like to verify the right tires and the right rim to buy. Appreciate any help.

I can help you find exactly what you need, though I was not able to find any type of reference to the number you gave.

To find out the correct wheel, you only need to know your bolt pattern, which will be either 6 on 5-1/2" or 8 on 6-1/2". I have added a link to a help article which explains exactly how to find your bolt pattern by taking a quick measurement.

For a dump trailer that I assume is double axle and has a GVWR of 14,000 lbs I'll make a couple recommendations for each of your bolt patterns. However, starting with tires only I recommend the Provider ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range G # PRG80235 because of its hefty 4,080 lb maximum capacity and 14 ply construction, ensuring it is highly durable. This tire will fit 16" x 6", 16" x 6-1/2", and 16" x 7" rims.

For a wheel and tire combo, here are the best options: for a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern I recommend the Kenda ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 16" Black Mod Wheel - 6 on 5-1/2 - Load Range E # AM34834 which has a 3,500 lb capacity at 90 psi.

For an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern I recommend the Provider ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 16" White Spoke Wheel - 8 on 6-1/2 - Load Range G # A16R80GWS, both of which have a 4,080 lb capacity.

I have added links to video reviews of each tire and wheel for you to check out.
