Lippert Components Heavy-Duty Replacement Shock # LC283280 has a nut on each end for securing the shock to the mounts on your trailer suspension. These should be tightened against the outside washers enough to secure the shock to the mounts but not so much that you compress the rubber grommets.

It sounds like you might be asking if you could add a second nut inboard of the inside washers to extend the length between the mounting points. Lippert does not recommend this, according to my contact there. The shock is intended to install with the inside washers and grommets right up against the shock tubing on both ends.

If I am not understanding your question correctly please let me know.
