Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2019 Coachman Freedom Express Ultra Lite 248RBS

Question:

I am getting mixed reports of using a bolt on bumper hitch receiver for my brand new Coachman Freedom Express UL 248RBS. I just purchased the unit 10 days ago and on the day I took possession, the salesman told me it would void the warranty if I welded anything onto the 4 in square tube bumper. I previously used a welded on receiver on my 2001 Roockwood M18 Roo to carry a bicycle rack or a basket to but a generator on for tailgating and I wanted to do the same with my new Coachman. So, I ordered the bolt on version. Now I am reading reports that the bumper/frame is not strong enough to handle the things I mentioned above because of torque on the 4 inch tube. I know the rack or the basket will bounce around on the back of the camper, it is going to happen. But is that torque too much for this frame and bumper? if so, is there anything I can do to fix that problem?

On the Ultra Lite trailers like your 2019 Coachman Freedom Express Ultra Lite 248RBS, the manufacturers don't reinforce the bumpers to be able to handle that weight so the torque on the bumper is too great. The best solution is to use the Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs, 22" to 68-1/2" Wide # C13704 or up to 72 inch wide # 13703. This trailer hitch will mount to the frame of your trailer and will allow you to use a bike rack or cargo carrier on your trailer.

If you will be using a bike rack just make sure it is rated for travel trailer use as many are not and that extra movement you referenced can cause bike racks not made for that additional movement to fail. I've linked the page to all your options.
