What is Needed to Use a Weight Distribution System on a Lifted Truck

Question:

Hi, I am considering purchasing a camper, and before I do, I want to make sure its going to work with my truck. I have a 2014 Ram 2500 with 5inch lift running 37inch tires. I know this setup isnt ideal for towing, but Its all I have. I have seen WD ball mounts with 8inch of drop, could I use this with a WD system? Any recommendations as to what type of WD hitch would suit me best? Thank you,

You can use a weight distribution system with your truck, and we do have drop shanks that would allow you to tow your trailer level as well but first let's talk about picking out the correctly rated system.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

Now most of the WD systems use the same shank design so if you needed a large amount of drop the part # C17124 can do up to 10 inches of drop. Most likely this would be the shank you would need considering your lift and tire size.

Once you have determine what your loaded tongue weight is you will want to check out the link I attached that will take you to a page that has all of our WD systems. You will want to select your tongue weight from the filters list and the correct rated systems will be listed.
