Converting Vehicle Side 7-Way Trailer Wiring to 4-Way Standard Wiring

I have a 2001 Nissan Xterra I want to take off the 7 Pin and put a 3 pin with green,yello,white,brown which wires do I use and which wires don’t I use on the Xterra Thanks

It sounds like you want to do a conversion from your 7-way to a standard 4-way trailer connection that has the 3 functions and ground. There are a couple different options for you that don't require much if you just need the 4-way connector for a trailer. You can use the Pollak 7 Pole to 4 Way Connector Adapter # PK12716 for the easiest connection.
Your 2001 Xterra didn't come with a factory 7-way so you may find there is a 4-way plug connection behind your 7-way that you can simply disconnect and use. On most 7-ways this means you won't use the purple, blue, and black wires.
If you want to remove wires from your 7-way and connect a 4-way in it's place, you will use the wire locations I've outlined in the attached photos to assist. I've also attached a wiring article to further assist. Colors sometimes don't directly line up but the pin locations and functions will. I recommend using the Hopkins Endurance Quick-Fix Replacement 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector w LED Test Lights - Vehicle End # HM48190 for that application.
