Special Wiring Harness Needed for 2019 Jeep Cherokee Speed Wobble When Flat Towed

Question:

My friend had jeep add wiring to his power steering to keep him from getting speed wobbles on his 2015 cherokee trailhawk. Is that necessary on my 2019?

Yes, a special harness is needed to flat tow your 2019 Jeep Cherokee. Jeep designed a special harness to address the problem you mentioned of wobble when flat towing the newer Jeep like your 2019 Jeep Cherokee. It's the part number 68321424AB and it can only be obtained through your Jeep dealer. Jeep issued a Service Bulletin which calls for a special wiring harness which keeps the PS energized while being towed.

If you don't yet have all the flat towing components needed for your Jeep, here are some recommendations on parts (along with that Jeep harness) to keep you safe when flat towing your 2019 Jeep Cherokee.

I recommend starting with the custom base plate kit # RM-521447-5 if your Jeep is not a Trailhawk model. You will want # RM-521446-5 if it is a Trailhawk. Then for your tow bar I recommend the Roadmaster Falcon 2 # RM-520 which will connect directly to those base plate options. Then you can use part # RM-643 for safety cables.

For your tow bar wiring and Jeep lights I recommend the diode kit # RM-15267. This will use the vehicle's tail lights while still protecting your electronics. I also recommend the charge line kit # RM-156-25 which will maintain your Jeep battery when being towed.

For a supplemental braking system the Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 is my favorite because of how reliable it is and its ease of use with no adjustments after installation. You simply flip a switch when you are ready to tow. You will also need a stop light switch kit # RM-751471 to allow your motorhome system to show when the Jeep brakes are being applied.

Finally, you'll likely need a high-low adapter. I've attached an article to help you determine the correct rise or drop your setup requires. I've also linked our selection of adapters for you to look at once you know what you need.

In addition to my recommendations I've linked some articles on flat towing that you may find helpful.
