How to Gain Clearance for Tailgate When Hooked Up to Trailer with Weight Distribution System

Question:

I have a lippert smart Jack on my RV 2018 Lance 1685. Unfortunately I cant lower the tailgate on my 2015 F150 when hooked up as it hits the jack. I use an equal-i-zer sway / weight distribution hitch. Can I turn the head of the Lippert Smart Jack 90 degrees?

I do have a solution for you, however the head by itself on the Lippert Smart Jack # LC643589 cannot be turned and the mounting plate doesn't really allow for a clean install if the entire jack is rotated.

With this in mind your best option is going to be to swap out your existing weight distribution shank with a longer one that will push the trailer back far enough to allow clearance for the tailgate. I recommend taking a look at the Curt Weight Distribution Shank # C17122 which measures 14 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the adjustment holes and is compatible with your Equal-i-zer system. You can compare this to your existing shank to make sure it will provide the needed extension.

I have attached a short video review that you can check out as well.
