Fuse of Curt Powered Converter Blows When Headlights on and Towing Trailer
Question:
is a 10 amp fuse sufficient for the battery supply line? I seem to be blowing fuses when i try to use my headlights while connected to trailer. I also saw something like unit only puts out four amps of power but a single 1157 is rated at 2.2 so would I already have a problem? My trailer has two of those and some side markers, My light tester doesnt test amp draw but says car side is OK wired. Will look at trailer again but it is new. Any ideas??

The correct fuse size for the Curt Powered Taillight Converter # C59236 is a 10 amp fuse.
It sounds like you have a common ground issue. When the headlights are on, the highest amperage draw is placed on the wiring system and if you have a bad or loose ground, you will have problems with lights. You will want to inspect to make sure all the light assemblies have a good ground connection to a clean, rust and paint-free metal surface. You will also want to make sure the trailer and vehicle side connector have a good ground connection.
You will want to check the ground connections on your trailer. You could unbolt the existing ground connections, and clean up the metal or relocate the ground connections to a clean metal surface.
If you are using a plastic license plate holder on the left side tail light, this could also be causing a ground issue and you will want to make sure the mounting bolts are making good contact with the trailer frame.
The Curt Wiring # 56200 should also have a clean ground connection to your vehicle frame. You will also want to check the trailer wiring connector for a ground.
