Will Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 84546UC3-EZ Fit Inside a 13 Inch Wheel
Question:
I have a custom built trailer with a 3,500lb axle, 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern hubs. To that axle I have attached two Redline WH1345-5CS rims with a combined max load of 3,320 lb. Mounted to those rims are two Hi Run ST175/80D13 tires with a combined max load of 2,720 lb. Even with the lowest common denominator of the tires, I can safely exceed 2,000 lb. on this trailer, and if I were to get load range D tires, I could safely exceed 3,000 lb. That being said, Im looking to add brakes to the trailer, and Im having difficulty finding a compatible set of drums. Your site seems to indicate that these drums will not fit inside a 13inch rim, yet an expert response seems to indicate that they will. Which is it?

Expert Reply:
The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly, part # 84546UC3-EZ, will fit inside a 13 inch wheel. The reason we do not list it as working is because the highest load range 13 inch tire is not rated higher than 3,500 lbs, so the weight capacity will be determined by the tire or the wheel and not the axle.
I am including a couple of links to FAQ pages on trailer tires and adding drum brakes to a trailer.
