Are Dexter Nev-R Adjust Brake Assemblies Adjusted Upon the Initial Installation
Question:
DO YOU HAVE TO ADJUST NEV-R-ADJUST BRAKES AFTER THEY ARE FIRST INSTALLED

My contact at Dexter did confirm that the # 23-468 Nev-R-Adjust brake assemblies will adjust themselves as you drive after the initial installation, but we still recommend that you do adjust the shoes when you first install the assemblies, so that your brakes are working as well as they can be upon the first use. This would be especially helpful in allowing your brake controller to engage the trailer brakes as intended.
To install them, you would just bolt on the assembly, connect the magnet wires to ground and your trailer electric brake wire, and then reinstall your hub drum and wheel. To adjust the brake shoes, you would access the brake adjuster from the back of the assembly, and adjust it out until you can no longer turn the trailer wheels by hand. Then, back off about 10 clicks for the optimum placement. You can view a video on brake assembly installation and adjustment at the link provided.
As soon as you start driving, the brake assembly will begin to adjust itself, and after more use it will continue to adjust the shoes out as needed, to make up for any wear on the shoes.
