Cargo Box That Allows My 2019 Subaru Outback With Factory Roof Rack Hatchback To Fully Open
Question:
The distance from stock front bar to open rear door is only 55”. What is my alternative? Will towers be tall enough? Which towers should I look for? Thank you

I can help you find alternative Cargo Boxes that give you the clearance you need. There is not a way to add towers to the factory roof rack on the 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon to carry the Yakima SkyBox 21 cubic feet part # Y07337. The Box fits the roof but the rear cargo area hatch cannot open fully with the box on the roof.
I recommend the Thule Motion XT 18 cubic feet part # TH629807. You are losing a few cubic feet with the Thule but the box allows you to fully open your hatchback. The box only needs 51-1/4 inches between the front crossbar and the line where the roof and hatch meet to allow the hatcback to fully extend so you have more than enough clearance. It also allows for dual side access like the Skybox. The Thule is also equipped with its own locking system. This is the largest box available that definitely allows you the clearance you need.
