Troubleshooting Left Turn/Stop Lights on Trailer Not Operating When Connected to 2002 Dodge Ram

Question:

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab SLT. All the lights are working on it. When I checked the lights on my trailer, all lights are working except the brake and blinkers on the left side. I turned all lights on and checked the terminals on the 7 way connectorMopar 56038366ABon the truck and I have 12 volts on the 11 oclock, 1 oclock, and 3 oclock terminals and about .40 volts on the 7 oclock terminals. I have replaced the yellow/brown wire on the left side and that didnt correct the problem. I replaced the left tail light and still no brake lights or blinker lights. I replaced the female connector assembly on the trailer as well as the Mopar connector on the truck and still no lights. Could you help me please?

Thank you for all of the details. It sounds like the problem may be on your pickup still. You mentioned testing the pins in the 1, 3, 7, and 11 o'clock positions but if you reference the attached photo you can see that the left turn/stop pin on your 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 should be the pin in the 9 o'clock position of your 7-Way. If you test this pin and find that there is no signal then you likely have a bad fuse or relay.

In the online owner's manual it looks like there is a "Trailer Tow Left Turn Relay Control" in position 14 of your power distribution box. Try swapping that out with a relay that you know is working and see if that fixes the problem. If it does then you know that the relay is bad and needs replacing. If it doesn't then you likely have some bad wiring somewhere between the power distribution box and the 7-Way on your pickup.

Let me know if you are still having issues and I can help you out further. I have also attached a link to our selection of accessories for your Dodge Ram which includes products to make towing easier.
