Will the Curt Ball and Plate Assembly Work with the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit

Question:

Why does just the replacement plate #RP58062 at $ cost more than a complete Reese Friction Sway Control Kit code 83660 at $ Why would anyone buy just the plate when you can get a whole kit cheaper. No way a steel plate and ball cost that much to make. Would the more reasonably priced Curt #17201 at $ work on a 21ft Jayco Jay Flight SLX8 at around 5,000 pounds?

Expert Reply:

The Replacement Ball and Plate Assembly part # C17201 should work just fine for your Jayco Jay Flight SLX 8 whether you have theReese Friction Sway Control Kit part # 83660 or the Curt Friction Sway Control for Weight Distribution Systems part # 17200. We also have the Replacement Ball and Plate Assembly for Husky Sway Control System part # HT34842 as well which should work with either of the above two sway control bars.

In regards to pricing, these figures can and will fluctuate based on several factors such as supply, demand, competitor pricing etc. but I won't have an exact reason for you on any given day. I recommend you choose the most cost effective item you are comfortable with using.

Can I have a Reese sway control on one side and a Husky on the other.

The different brand sway bars likely differ a bit both in terms of length and tension, so I wouldn't recommend using both on the same trailer. This could cause noticeable issues in performance, so I highly recommend sticking with the same brand/model for each side of the trailer.
