Why Does the Curt TriFlex Show Power Figures Without a Trailer Connected
Question:
Had controller installed when bought the truck from dealer. Didnt use till 3 months after and found out the dealer that installed wrong. Different dealer found 3 out of the 4 wires from pigtail to truck were wrong they rewired and I got it recalibrated when I got home. But why does it show display of number setting when the trailer is uplugged? I understand 1 dot means unplugged and 2 dots means connected. Could the controller be damaged from wrong wiring for so long? Yes its under warranty they said its fine no need for a new one? I did recalibrate it. I really dont like the display all the time when no trailer. I have 3 different vehicles with different brand name controller and none act like this. Thanks for your help!

According to the owner's manual for the Curt TriFlex Trailer Brake Controller part # C24VV, the controller will display output settings without a trailer connected. I have attached for you below an excerpt from page 5 that explains this.
"The maximum output setting is shown on the display when a trailer is connected and the brake pedal is pressed or the manual control is actuated. If a trailer is not connected the output setting is flashed when the brake pedal is pressed or the manual control is actuated. The output setting is shown as 0.5 through 9.9."
Based on what you said, it doesn't appear as if the TriFlex is malfunctioning.
