Can I Tow More Weight with Draw-Tite Hitch and Weight Distribution System with 2001 Grand Cherokee
Question:
I have a factory installed tow package and am using a Weight Distribution Hitch WDH. The factory installed package only provides towing information for 5000lbs trailer weight and 500lbs tongue weight. If I remove the factory installed hitch and use yours, will it allow me to tow heavier trailer and have higher tongue weights? My current trailer unloaded is a Riverside 827 with a dry weight of 4200lbs and 420lb tongue weight, which is nearing the factory limits. Id like to keep my Jeep rather than by a truck, so in short will your hitch resolve my issue?

The Draw-Tite hitch part # 75139 for the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee is rated for 750 lbs of tongue weight with the use of a weight distribution system. You can tow 750 lbs of tongue weight with the Draw-Tite hitch, with a weight distribution system if you are not exceeding the vehicle's Gross Vehicle Weight rating and have a 4.7 liter engine. I found in your owner's manual if the Jeep has a 4.7L engine it can tow up to a 6,500 lb, 30 ft trailer with an upgraded hitch but without that engine it can only tow 5,000 lbs. I do recommend verifying the capacity in your printed copy of the manual.
