Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for 2018 Ram 2500 with Lippert Trailair Turning Point Pin Box

Question:

Hello - we have a 2018 Ram 2500 with 64inch bed, without ram boxes. Ordered the Mopar 5th wheel bed kit 82213980AB, however havent installed yet until we finalize the hitch, but we need to have the bed clear for use when we are not towing. Our 2896MB 5th wheel have a Trail Air Turning Point pin box, so I think that means we should use a fixed hitch? Is the Curt A16 with Ram legs into the pucks our best option? C16520-16021?

Correct, the Lippert Trailair Turning Point Pin Box is a rotating pin box which means you will want to use a fixed 5th wheel hitch because you don't need the extra turning clearance from a sliding 5th wheel hitch. In regards to the best option, I really like the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16520-16021 but the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch part # BWRVK3600 is also another really good option for you as well.

They both have 1" thick dual locking jaws so the performance will be similar but I give the edge here to B&W as we tend to hear less complaints of chucking while using this 5th wheel hitch when compared to the Curt option. However, Curt has the edge in regards to installation/removal as it is one, lighter overall 170 lbs vs 210 lbs and two, the head can be removed with only one pin which makes it even easier to install/removal as you can do it in pieces. The B&W head can also be removed but this requires two pins to be removed and it is still heavier.

The B&W hitch is less cost effective than the Curt hitch but I am sure you will be happy with either option.
