7-Way and Brake Controller Installation for 2012 Honda Odyssey

Question:

Hi I recently bought a transmission cooler from e trailer, as well as air bags for the rear suspension and will be towing a pop up style camper. The one I would like to buy has electric breaks, yet I currently purchased and intend on installing a 4 wire trailer plug. I couldnt find a 7 pin or 8 pin whatever it may be, only the 4. So my questions are: Should I have a breaking controller installed and what are my options if so?

No worries, your 4-pole harness will still be needed as part of your trailer wiring and brake controller installation. Since your 2012 Odyssey did not come with the 7-way wiring you can add that to the 4-pole harness using part # ETBC7L. This includes the 7-way socket and the few other items needed to use an easy-install brake controller like the Curt Echo # C51180.

The Echo is literally a plug-in install, no cutting or splicing needed. Once you install the 7-way kit you'll simply plug in the Echo and pair it to your smartphone. Then plug your trailer's 7-way plug into the Echo and you're done. When you're not towing just unplug the Echo and store it safely away until your next trip.

If you prefer to do a hardwired brake controller installation you can. You'll need a different install kit # ETBC7 and a controller that will mount inside the Odyssey passenger compartment, such as the Tekonsha Voyager, using parts # 39510 and # 20127.
