How to Power Winch at Rear of Chevy Silverado

Question:

I recently bough a Rough Country 12,000pd Winch for my 2017 Silverado. it came with a hitch mount. My Question is Whats the best way to get power to the Winch from that far away. My truck is also a Double Cab. that puts the winch approx.20 - 22 ft. away from battery. Just tonight I ordered a Rough Country - 2-gauge, 24ft. Quick Disconnect Winch Power Cable. But should I be running some kind of dual battery set up ? or some kind of booster or something ? I want to give winch all the power it needs but dont want to hurt my truck in the process. yes , I already talked to Rough Country about a front mount, they told me that they have only one that would fit on front of 2017 Silverado, it is a BadAssed mount but I cant afford #600.00 for it !!! Thank you very much for your time

What you would normally do for a front-mounted winch is use an auxiliary battery and Isolator # PK5231201 between your Silverado's battery and the aux battery but the issue, as you mentioned, is the distance to the rear of your truck.

The best option then is going to be using a battery box mounted on your truck and wired to your winch. You should use the TorkLift PowerArmor Single Locking Battery Box # TLA7720R because it has an access hole for wiring and locks to keep your battery protected.

Using this would be similar to powering your winch with a trailer mounted battery like in the cut out I added, which is of the linked help article on how to power a winch. The only difference is that for charging the battery I recommend a separate charger such as the CTEK MULTI US 3300 12-Volt Universal Battery Charger # CTEK56353.
