Determining Function of Non-Standard Wire Colors on Trailer to Install 4-Way Connector
Question:
so we have 5 wires coming form the trailer 2 white 1 yellow 1 green 1 yellow/brown or black 1 green/brown or black it is connected to a connector that has 4 cores 1 white 1 yellow 1 green 1 brown we have 2 whites connected to white yellow to yellow green to green yellow/brown and green/brown to brown this is not working! the brake lights come on indicators work together not separately please help

The best way to connect the 4-Way to your trailer wiring is going to be to test each of those wires by applying 12V power to them. By doing this you will be able to see what each wire activates on the trailer to verify their function. Going by wire color alone, as you are seeing, isn't always a good idea because trailer manufacturers or previous owners have a tendency to use non-standard wire colors.
Once you determine their functions the trailer wire for left turn/brake light will go to the yellow wire from the 4-Way. The wire for right turn/brake light will go to the green wire. The wire for running lights will go to the brown wire and the wire(s) for ground will go to the white wire.
