Ideal Fifth Wheel Trailer Setup to be Towed by Short Bed 2005 Ram 2500 Short Bed

Question:

I have a gooseneck hitch in my 2005 ram 2500 with a 6 foot bed. I am wanting to purchase a ranch hitch adapter, either the 8inch offset or the regular. I do not have a trailer yet and want to ensure i will have clearance between the trailer and cab. What is the negative to getting the 8inch offset vs the regular? Is there much of a ride difference?

An offset fifth wheel to gooseneck adapter is going to put a bit more stress from leverage on the pin box it's installed on. The other thing to think about is that since the offset turns as the trailer turns you really don't gain much in turning clearance since the offset basically shrinks as the turn gets sharper and sharper.

What I would recommend is a fifth wheel trailer that has a tapered nose designed for short bed turning clearance and then use a non-offset adapter like the part # AM3100. Some of the noses are referred to as "max turn cap" or "88 degree".
