Battery Disconnect Switch to Use with Vermeer Chipper with Electric Starter
Question:
My Vermeer chipper has an electric starter and therefore an automotive battery. Id like to install a disconnect switch to help prevent the battery from draining during the winter or other periods of extended non-use. The Bulldog Winch 500 Amp Shut-Off Switch - Metal Housing Item # BDW20248 looks like it would do the trick but I would like you to recommend other switches that would do the trick or be even more appropriate for my application. Then... Please recommend a mounting plate for whichever switch you recommend, along with battery wire and ring crimp fittings and anything else you think I will or might need to install the switch. Thanks!!

We have two options for you to consider. We have the Bulldog 500 amp switch part # BDW20248 which would work well or we have the 400 amp switch part # BDW20247 instead which has a removable key on it which would act as a theft deterrent possibly.
Both of these have mounting holes which will allow you to easily mount them as long as there's an available area on chipper but it's hard to be more specific than that as you'll need to provide hardware to allow this application to install the best.
We won't have ring terminals to fit the studs of these switches which would also accept the heavier gauge wire you'd need to provide either but most likely you'd just be installing this inline with the power wire already there.
