2010 Honda Pilot 7-Way Trailer Wiring Kit and Brake Controller Recommendation
Question:
2010 Honda pilot - changing from 4 pole to 7 pole and brake converter 118491. I previously installed a 4 pole kit exactly like this one on my Pilot. I now need to tow something that requires a 7 pole connecttion and a brake controller. What exactly do I need to make this change over since some of the parts from each kit 4 pole vs 7 pole may be duplicates.

The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118491 is a confirmed fit for Honda Pilot models between 2009 and 2011. The Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way Trailer Connector # 118253 does have some redundancy in the parts as you stated. I reached out to my tech contact at the manufacturer and the box relays and fuses are the same. The differences are an additional relay and the wiring connector and plug. The issue is they don't have those parts available separately so you will need to purchase the entire kit to get the parts that are not available outside of the kit.
I've attached videos of these two installations to assist. Then for your brake controller, I recommend the Curt Echo Wireless # C51180 which will simply plug into the 7-way and give you setting adjustability through a mobile app via Bluetooth connection. It requires no further wiring and you can simply store it in your glove box when not in use. If you prefer a hardwired connection then I recommend the Redarc Tow Pro Elite # RED44FR for a clean look on your dash with excellent function and the wiring adapter # 3070-S for under your dash. I've attached an installation video on a Ford Explorer to give you an idea of the installation.
