How To Replace a 7-Way Trailer Connector on a 2005 Toyota Tacoma
Question:
I have an 05 Tacoma w a 7way wiring harness that is broken. Id like to change to the 7way w 4 flat in one harness. Is it possible to do without changing complete kit from tail lights or is there a universal? Thank you

If the 7-way trailer connector that you have on your 2005 Toyota Tacoma has the two piece removable design and the trailer connector is the only part that is damaged then you could easily replace it with the Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector part # HM40950. If you don't know what I mean by two piece removable design then take a look at the 1:20 mark in the first attached video of a similar trailer connector.
If you do not have the two piece removable design then you will want to use the Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow 7-, 5- and 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector part # HM48470 instead. In order to install this trailer connector you would just simply need to cut off the old, damaged 7-way trailer connector you have now and wire this one on using the terminals in the rear which you can see done in the second attached video.
The above two options will allow you to replace the trailer connector on your Toyota Tacoma with one that has both 4 and 7-way trailer connections points without replacing the entire wiring harness.
