Recommendation for Low Profile Class III Trailer Hitch on 2013 Subaru Outback Wagon

I have an outback that I like to take to the trails fairly often and I need to add a hitch to it. The departure angle on the outback is already so bad, Id like to impact it as little as possible. Can you help me a hitch that is the most snug to the vehicle as possible? I need it to be a class III hitch because I will be mounting a rear tire swing arm carrier to it as well. The three I am looking at currently are: EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2 Item # 306-X7162 75673 76227 Id like to know the measurements of how far it is from the bottom of the groundy as well as how far it is from the endx of the rear bumper. Thanks so much for your help!

The two most concealed Class III hitches available for your 2013 Subaru Outback Wagon, the Draw-Tite # 76227 and the EcoHitch # 306-X7162, both features 2 inch receivers that will pretty much sit right up against the bottom of the rear bumper fascia on the vehicle.

We haven't had the chance to install either of these hitches on the 2013 model Subaru Outback Wagon so I don't have exact ground clearance dimensions, but if you measure down around 2-3/4 inches from the bottom of the bumper fascia on your vehicle this will tell you where the bottom of the receiver will sit when installed.

Since ground clearance between these two options is the same, your choice comes down to whether you want a more hidden design with the receiver tucked behind the bumper or one that is a bit easier to access. The Draw-Tite # 76227 will protrude more towards the rear of the vehicle (but still not beyond the bumper), making it easier to insert accessories like your tire carrier. The EcoHitch # 306-X7162 though will be tucked back a bit more, offering a sleeker OEM-like appearance.

If it were me I would go with the Draw-Tite # 76227 that will be easier to access. This Class III hitch also features a higher tongue weight capacity of 600 pounds (compared to 350 pounds on the EcoHitch) and is quite a bit friendlier in terms of price.

The closest we have is our Trailer Hitch Adapter #e93YR which has a max rise of 6-1/2". Since 1-1/4" hitch receivers aren't too strong in the first place, manufacturers don't want to build adapters like this too high…
