Troubleshooting Trailer Brake Lights Not Working When Tail Lights Are On
Question:
my led brake lights work with the tail lights off but when i put the tail lights on the brake lights dont work. Is this because theyre sharing the same 4 leds?

It is highly unlikely that the issue is sharing the same LEDs; this sounds like a classic case of a poor ground connection.
A bad ground connection can cause issues like this so you'll want to make sure your grounds are securely attached to bare metal surfaces free of any paint, dirt or corrosion of any kind. A ground can also be interrupted if there is anything between the metal trailer frame and the light's ground.
I have also added links to a pair of help articles on trailer wiring, including a troubleshooting guide which I highly recommend taking a look at.
