Hitch Ball Falls Through Hole on Curt Double Lock Gooseneck Hitch When Released

Is it safe to use the ball as long as both rods are in their correct place in the ball?

On the Curt Double Lock, Flip and Store Underbed Gooseneck Hitch like part # C60720, there is a 3/8" guide pin in the lower portion of the receiver tube opening. This guide pin is designed to hold the hitch ball in place when the handle is pulled so it does not fall through the hole. If your hitch ball falls through this hole when the handle is pulled then this pin has sheared off. This usually happens when weight is placed on the hitch ball without the dual locking pins fully engaged. In order to fix this issue you will need to grind off the remaining guide pin and then tack weld a new one into place. This guide pin is only offered through Curt so you will need to reach out to them for replacement.
