Best Hitch, Wiring and Towing Items for 2018 Mazda CX-9

Question:

When we ordered our CX-9 we got it without the towing package items. No hitch, no wiring. They just wanted SO MUCH $$ for those things that we decided to be smarter and come back to etrailer since you guys outfitted our 2012 Outback for us. That car is now "going to college" with our daughter. The Subaru setup you recommended saved us enough for a nice weekend getaway. Do that again, please! We need the whole shebang - hitch, ball coupler, wiring, mirrors.....tell us everything we might need. No trailer brakes - its a tiny tear. Please and Thank you.

Thank you for coming back to us for help with your new vehicle! I think we'll be able to help you save $ money yet again.

I recommend Draw-Tite's 2-inch hitch # 76020 because it has the highest weight capacity of all available hitches but installs easily with its included hardware packet. You can see the whole process in the video I linked for you which features a 2018 CX-9.

For 4-pole trailer wiring you have a choice of a hardwired kit # C59496 which does require some splicing to the car's wiring or a removable universal no-splice harness, the ZCI kit # 119250KIT, which costs more but which installs without you having to make any permanent changes to the car. This kit's clamp-on installation also means that the ZCI could be removed quickly and then installed in your next new vehicle.

For a complete and flexible ball mount kit I suggest multi-ball item # 989900 along with an anti-rattle hitch lock like # 63232 which will steady the ball mounts for less rattle and noise. For clip-on universal towing mirrors I recommend the dual lens set # KS3990 from K-Source.
