Do my brakes need to be self adjusting type?

The electric brake assemblies on your trailer do not need to be self-adjusting for them to work with any of our brake controllers such as the Autowbrake # 3430001 that you're looking at.

Self-adjusting brakes like the etrailer.com # AKEBRK-35-SA for 3,500 pound axles simply allow for a more maintenance-free application since they won't need to be manually adjusted like standard brakes. This feature does not affect compatibility with brake controllers.

This depends on how the wiring is set up on your trailer. A lot of trailer wiring outside the US uses separate wires for each circuit, where US systems combine the stop and turn signal circuits on each side. If your trailer uses combined wiring then the Autowbrake will work perfectly. Otherwise you may need to combine those circuits with a converter to allow for proper operation.
