In order to install a brake controller on your 2003 Monaco Knight motorhome you will need a 4-way trailer connector, 4 to 7-way trailer connector adapter, and a brake controller. There will also be some loose wires and circuit breakers needed but most kits come with this.
For a 4-way trailer connector if not already equipped, I recommend the Curt Upgraded Circuit Protected Powered Tail Light Converter part # C59496 which is compatible with two wire, three wire, and systems with LED lights. The process to install this wiring harness will consist of splicing into the tail light wires and then running a power wire to the battery.
Once you have the 4-way installed you can then convert this to a 7-way for which I recommend using the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7 because as mentioned above it comes with loose wires and circuits breakers as well as a circuit tester. In order to install this adapter you will need to plug the 4-way you just installed into the 4-way on this trailer connector, ground the white wire and then run the brake output and power wires up to the brake controller and battery respectively. In order to do this you will need more wire than what is included which can be obtained with part # 10-2-1 (per foot).
Finally, you will need a brake controller and for that I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 because it is considered by most to be the best in the industry. In order to install this brake controller you have to connect four wires; the white ground wire goes to a bare metal surface, the black power wire goes to the battery with a circuit breaker placed in between, the red stoplight wire goes to the cold side of the brake pedal, and the blue brake output wire is attached to the wire that you ran into the cab for the 7-way.
I have attached an install video of this entire process on a similar motorhome for you.
