Should Vehicle Brake Lights Come On when Using Manual Override on Agility Trailer Brake Controller

Question:

Should Vehicle Brake Lights Come On when Using Manual Override on Agility Trailer Brake Controller? Hi, I installed a Hopkins 47294 Agility™ Plug-In Simple!® Brake Control today in my 2009 Kia Sorento along with a Hopkins 47185 Multi-Tow® 4 Flat to 7 Blade and 4 Flat. I initially bought the Hopkins 47275 Brake Control Installation Kit and went back and got the Hopkins 47685 CHEVROLET / GMC Brake Control Connector Universal. I installed per the instructions with a wire all the way from battery to the black wire on the 47185 plug. Blue wire from the plug run to the blue wire on the 47294 controller. I ran power using the fuse from the 47275 kit to the black power wire on the 47294 controller. The white ground wire was ran straight to the neg. terminal on the battery. On my Kia, I determined that the white wire on the brake switch was the cold side for the lights and I used an inline splice. I did not connect the purple reverse light wire, as I really didnt want to look for it a this time. I did connect to my flat 4 that I had installed with my hitch at Uhaul 2 years ago. I have not yet picked up my trailer, so I dont know if I wired everything correct, but I was surprised that when I hit the manual button the the 47294 Brake Control my SUVs brake lights lite up. Should they have done so? Did I do something wrong? I did notice that they say that the Manual slide activates the trailer brake lights for added security.inch So would that also also activate the tow vehicles tail lights even if no trailer is connected? So, I need to know, Should Vehicle Brake Lights Come On when Using Manual Override on Agility Trailer Brake Controller? Thank you for reviewing.

Helpful Expert Reply:

Yes, the brake lights on your 2009 Kia Sorento should illuminate when the manual override on the Hopkins Agility Trailer Brake Controller is engaged. It sounds like you have everything installed correctly so I would not be worried at all. If you would like to check the functions of the 7-way and brake controller you have installed without a trailer you can use the 7 Way Trailer Connector Vehicle Tester part # C73NR.
