Your 2002 Kia Sportage with manual transmission is flat towable but not recommended to tow over 55 mph. It is also recommended to start the engine every 400 miles and let it run for 5 minutes to lubricate the transmission.

It is not recommended according to your owners manual to use a tow dolly.

For your 2002 Kia Sportage I recommend the following flat towing system components:
Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # 2104-1
Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar - Motorhome Mount - 2" Hitch - 6,000 lbs # RM-520
RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables - 6,000 lbs # RM-643
Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267
SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # SM99251
Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25

Finally, you will need a high low adapter. I've attached some videos and some articles to help with how all these components fit together for your system. If you have further questions let me know.

My 2002 Kia Sportage is a 4x4. It makes sense to put the transfer case in nuetral when towing. But is it better to leave the transmission in Nuetral as well or in gear?

@BillG That's something you'll need to refer to your owner's manual for. The manual will either call it flat towing or recreational towing and will give you step by step instructions for putting your vehicle in tow mode.
