How Much Height will the Curt Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Part # 16055 Provide

Question:

We hail allot of hay on side dump hay trailers and my question is will the short ball be a problem cause the hay trailers specify that you need a high ball to pull them?

If you measure the length of the coupler on your trailer (see photo), you can then compare that to the height of the bedsides of your tow vehicle as this is going to tell you whether or not you are going to run into any clearance issues. The recommended amount of clearance between the bedsides and trailer is about 5-6". With that being said, the Curt Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch part # 16055 sits about 2-1/2" above the bed floor when measuring from the base of the ball so this is going to give you added clearance. If you need even more clearance then you will want to use the Curt Spyder Gooseneck Trailer Hitch part # 16085 as it sits about 4-1/8" above the bed floor which will be more so than most high-rise gooseneck hitch balls.

Please keep in mind that both gooseneck hitches attach to a set of 5th wheel base rails. If you do not already have these then please provide me with the year, make, and model of your truck and I would be happy to recommend a set. I have attached review videos for you as well.
