How to Power Dutton-Lainson Winch # DL25200 with 2008 Chevy TrailBlazer

Question:

Thanks for your quick response. Sorry for not explaining myself very well. The winch is installed on the boat trailer and will stay there. It’s the power source I want to change. The pickup that currently supplies the power has Two connectors...one for the trailer lights and one for the winch. I want to be able to tow the boat trailer with the trailblazer, but when I plug the winch into the connector on the trailblazer it doesn’t send power to the winch. The connector was on the trailblazer when we bought it so I don’t know if it was installed for something specific. Maybe the connector it has to be rewired?

Would you be able to send me some pictures of your setup? Typically winches like the Dutton-Lainson TW4000 StrongArm Electric Winch # DL25200 are installed on the boat trailer and they draw power from either the tow vehicle battery via the 12V Power pin on the 7-Way connector, or from a separate battery.

If you can give me some more details about how your winch is configured and what you have on your pickup and your Trailblazer I would be happy to help you get it switched over!

No apologies needed! It sounds like you may have a 7-Way connector on your 2008 Chevy Trailblazer that you are trying to draw power from for your winch. If this is the case then you may need to simply replace a fuse or relay. From what I could find in an online version of your owner's manual this may be in location 32 of the fuse block that is located under your hood. If this is not the case and you are just wanting to add quick disconnects for the winch then we have part # DL24086 which will allow you to run wiring from the battery in your TrailBlazer to the quick connect and then tie the wiring harness from your winch to the other quick connect. Attached is a helpful article on wiring an electric winch for you to reference as well.
