Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for Towing 20k Fifth Wheel Hitch Car Hauler

Question:

Hi i have a 2018 Ram 3500 that currently pulls a 2017 take3 3 car hauler with a gooseneck ball. then truck has the factory prep package for either gooseneck or fifth wheel hitch. i want to upgrade to a fifth wheel hitch because it allows me to gain more work for my buisness. the trailer has a gvwr of 20,000 lbs. Will this fifth wheel hitch be more than adequate for my towing needs. the trailer is 49 ft long and weighs 7000lbs. it is a step deck style that allows me to put a car up on the 2nd deck right over the hitch point. Also do you need to lock down the handle so the trailer would not come out of the jaws or is the lock pin only for stopping accidental uncoupling

Helpful Expert Reply:

For your 2018 Ram 3500 with the factory rail kit the Curt A25 hitch part # C16046 is a confirmed fit and would be an excellent option. It has a 25,000 lb capacity which means it would be more than strong enough for your trailer that has GVWR of 20k. The lock of the handle is designed to prevent the jaws from accidentally coming unlocked. It's a redundant security device but basically if the pin can be inserted in the handle the jaws of the hitch aren't opening.
