Recommendation For Leaf Springs and Shackle Straps on a 2001 King Boat Trailer

Question:

I recently purchased your part #5257035 Double eye leaf spring hangar to replace a broken one on a 2001 King boat trailer. Eye to eye dimensions are 25.25. What length spring and what length shackles should I use as I believe the current ones are incorrect and have been replaced before? King trailers lists a maximum load of 1725 lbs which is in line to my boat weight. I believe the trailer has a 3500 lb axle, 2.375inch diameter.

When replacing the leaf springs on your boat trailer you will need to match all of the dimensions and the spring capacity as closely as possible to the original spring. Usually the measurement from eye to eye will lengthen and the height measurement will decrease with wear. See picture I have included that will show the measurements you will need to match to replace your leaf springs.

The number of leaves in a spring pack does not have to remain the same as long as the weight capacity is inline with the boat trailer and axle rating and the measurements match the existing spring hardware.

For leaf springs on a 3,500-lb axle with an eye-to-eye dimension of 25-1/8 inches, I would have two choices. The 4-Leaf Spring, part # e54SR, which has 4 leaves, and the 3-Leaf Spring, part # e57SR, that has 3 leaves. You will want to make sure the measurements on your these two part numbers will match the measurements on your existing leaf springs.

It is recommended to replace leaf springs in pairs to ensure a balanced load on the boat trailer when towing.

If you need shackle links on your single axle trailer the normal length used on a single axle trailer is 3-1/8 inches. I have the TruRyde Shackle Strap, part # TRSL313. You would use two shackle straps per leaf spring on a single axle.

I am including a link to a FAQ page on Double-eye trailer suspensions.
