Help With Step 5 of Installing Roadmaster Base Plate # RM-521451-4 on 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk
Question:
Roadmaster did get back to me and said to pull "up" at the same time as pulling out and do it with greater force. After the third try doing the "up and out" method the fascia popped right out. I've completed the installation now and I have a few suggestions for anyone else installing this baseplate on a 2019 Jeep Trailhawk. It helps to put the front end up on jacks and remove the front tires. Step 4 of the instructions: There's no way to unplug the connector from the wheel well. You have to detach the driver's side of the fascia first, then reach in from the front to unplug the connector. First slide the yellow locking tab toward you, then slide the red locking mechanism to one side. Only then can it be unplugged. Step 5 says "pull out to release the fascia clips". What I think it should say is "pull up (towards the headlight along the seam between the fascia and body) and out to release the fascia clips. It will take quite a bit of force in both directions to release the clips". I did that on the passenger side and on the third try it popped out. Another mistake in the instructions is the placement of the breakaway switch on the light plug bracket. The pictures show it on the driver's side of the lighting plug. It really goes on the passenger side. There's a hole in the light plug bracket to mount the switch. I also had to bend the mounting posts for the light plug down a bit to get the plug to clear the fascia opening. It took a total of about 16 hours to complete everything. Without the fascia removal problem it would have been more like 12 hours. That includes installing the baseplate, tail light wiring, and wiring for the auxiliary braking system.

We've haven't had the chance to install the Roadmaster base plate kit part # RM-521451-4 on a 2019 Jeep Cherokee (as of September 2018) so we don't have any feedback we can give on step 5. Since you have really good info on how you handled Step 5 of the instructions I am going to post this on our site so that it could help future customers. Let me know what Roadmaster gets back to you with and I'll add that as well.
