Routing Trailer Brake Magnet Wiring to Avoid Abrasion from Moving Parts
Question:
Do you route the wire through the top spring and out the back ?

Expert Reply:
The Electric Trailer Brake Assembly # AKEBRK-7L-SA and similar electric drum brakes like the 10-inch # AKEBRK-35L-SA should have their two magnet wires already routed through the backing plate. This is shown in the linked photo.
If you are installing replacement magnets in your brakes you'll want to take care to route those magnet wires so that they do not get pinched by any moving parts. The protective sleeve on the magnet end of the wiring helps protect it from abrasion from the actuating arms and you'll want to route the leads behind these parts, between them and the backing plate, to get them to the hole in the backing plate.
