Hi Chris, I now stepped away from the Fiat 500 and are considering the Toyota Yaris. Would the same Base Plate apply?

You can definitely continue to use your existing Blue Ox Aventa LX Tow Bar with your 2017 Fiat 500. You will just need a compatible base plate kit for the vehicle.

If your Fiat is the Lounge or Pop model I recommend the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX2801. If you have the Abarth model I recommend the Blue Ox # BX2805. Both kits are compatible and will work great with your Aventa LX Tow Bar.

If you don't have them already, you will also need a lighting solution and a supplemental braking system to flat tow your vehicle. For a lighting solution I recommend the Curt Towed-Vehicle RV Harness # C58911. This is a custom harness that will plug into factory ports at the vehicle's tail lights and will give you the needed signal lights for towing.

For a supplemental braking system I really like the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251. This proportional system will activate the Fiat's brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in the RV. After the initial installation this is a mostly maintenance-free system that requires very little attention as you transition from flat towing to everyday driving (and vice versa).

You may also need a high-low adapter in order to keep the tow bar level. I have attached an article that explains how to choose the best one for your setup along with a link that will take you to our available selection.

For the 2017 Toyota Yaris hatchback you will need a different base plate kit. I recommend the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX3793, which is confirmed to fit this vehicle and is also compatible with the Blue Ox Aventa LX tow bar you already have. The wiring/lighting kit will also change for the Yaris, as there isn't a custom plug-in option available for this vehicle like the Curt Harness for the Fiat 500. For the Toyota Yaris I recommend going with the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This diode kit lets you use the vehicle's tail lights and wiring system to activate the tail lights for towing while also preventing feedback from the RV. It includes a 6-Way connector that will install at the front of the vehicle and enough coiled wiring to go from there to the 7-Way on the RV. Also note that for the Yaris you will need to add the Brake-Lite Relay Kit # RM-88400 to the braking system to prevent the vehicle's brake signal from overriding the turn signal from the RV when applying the brakes during a turn.
