How to Install a Brake Controller on a 2016 Ford F-150 with a 4-Way
Question:
hi, i have a truck that didnt come with the tow package so no 7 pin harness. so i bought a hitch from you and installed it to pull a boat with a trailer that only used a factory 4 pin harness. it was an easy install and has worked great. now i have a trailer that has a 7 pin. what do i need to buy to get that and combine/buy a brake controller . I am comfortable with doing the wiring myself. in fact i already have 2 -10 gauge conductors pulled from front to back that i thought i would use for a power inverter connected straight to the battery but now i guess i need a third conductor for the controller. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for all of the detailed information!
To install a brake controller, like the recommended Prodigy P3 # 90195, on your 2016 Ford F-150 you will first need the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This connects to your 4-Way and comes with all of the wiring and connectors needed to make it fully functional.
We do recommend using the adapter # 22292 to connect the controller by your driver's side dash. Some models have a blue wire and an orange wire that are run to the end of the driver's side frame rail which carry the brake controller output and hot lead but those can sometimes be difficult to find so running the wire for the ETBC7 is recommended. Simply tie the blue wire from the ETBC7 to the blue wire on the adapter and then route the black wire from the ETBC7 to your battery.
I have attached some videos and helpful articles that you can reference for the installation.
