No, a weight distribution system will not decrease the tongue weight capacity of a vehicle or trailer hitch. It will in some cases actually increase both the tongue weight capacity and gross trailer weight capacity of the vehicle/hitch. If this is the case then there will be a figure for this new rating either on the hitch itself or in the vehicle's owner's manual.

The best weight distribution system we offer in my opinion is the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System. The reason I consider this to be the best system is because it has four point sway control which will do an excellent job of managing trailer sway. The majority of the weight distribution systems we offer only have two point sway control.

In order to choose the best system you will need to find your total tongue weight which is composed of the loaded ready to tow tongue weight of the trailer added to any cargo stored behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. Once you find this figure you can then choose a system that the total tongue weight falls in the middle of. I have attached our options from Equal-i-zer for you.
